This mirrors the EU Consumer Rights Directive's right of withdrawal (and the UK's equivalent), which OpenAI applies as policy rather than making you cite the statute.

The clean 5-minute execution

  1. Check the date. Day 1 is the charge date on your receipt. Day 14 is the deadline — don't cut it close across time zones.
  2. Cancel the plan (Settings → Subscription → Manage → Cancel). The policy language is "cancel within 14 days," so do the cancellation, not just the request.
  3. Open the Help Center chat at help.openai.com while logged in and write: "I purchased [Plus/Pro] on [date]. I'm a consumer in [country] and am cancelling within 14 days of purchase; requesting my refund per your EU/UK/Turkey policy."
  4. Wait 5–7 business days for processing; the receipt arrives by email.

Three ways people fumble a sure thing

Waiting. Day 15 converts a right into a favor. Wrong biller. Bought through the App Store? Apple handles it — the 14-day EU right still helps your case, but the request goes to reportaproblem.apple.com. Vague requests. "I want my money back" starts a debate; "cancelling within 14 days per your EU policy, purchased [date]" ends one.
